Jormander, he's a lot bigger than I thought.

The party was shaken but only for a short while. They all gathered their belongings and resolved to investigate where the other shrines to Ubris were. The goal, at least for now, to send off the witches to their peace.

Without warning, a voice, in the distance. "There must be a reason the beacon did not light up" grumbled one person. "Yes, let's split up just in case", retorted another.

The party was circumspect and hastily made their move in the dense forest. They hid behind trees and brush and felled timber. The Volva, Freja, mounted Draco and as silently as possible soared in to the air observing from above.

Kiera spotted one of the Paladins of Ubris and signaled him. He reasoned that he could talk his way out of what he thought might be necessary bloodshed. "Hello!" he said "I say, do you know the way out of the thickness? I seem to have lost my way and wish to get back to the road" he bluffed. "Are you hurt?" asked the Paladin. "No, no…well, there was a sort of explosion and I was knocked unconscious. But I am feeling better now. I would just like to get back to the road" Kiera declared.

The Paladins eyes shifted back and forth sensing something was amiss. His heart began to pound rappidly and his hand moved toward his blade. Kiera in an instant slashed his blade at the ominous knight striking him to his surprise. An arrow flew from the thicket from Kelric missing wildly. Jhun waited for his prey behind a yew tree. Freja, stroking Draco's neck, nudged the beast to descend a little closer and she loosed an electric charge of energy from her fingertips, the air was charged and she struck her target with deadly accuracy.

Once the Paladins knew of the menace in the forest they moved forward with militant assurance. A blade flashed in the face of Kiera as he dodged the first and then a second blow then attacked back striking his enemy.

Jhun saw his partner in death approaching, taking the utmost precaution he lunged at the knight and struck true.

Another arrow flung through the expanse between Kelric's bow and his intended target. Shhhhwaft" the paladin cried as he felt the sting of the arrowhead and the shaft opening a gash in his delicate flesh. Kelric grabbed another arrow and readied it.

A Deadly Song And An Unlikely Friend

That next morning the Berserker's said their goodbyes to the party and they set off. Everyone gathered their belongings doused their fire and began to set off to find where the hill giant had taken Jormander's carcass.

The morning turned to early afternoon as the snow packed under each footstep. The party, with determination, took few rests as they resolved to find Jormander and its thief.

Then, suddenly, a sound…a beautiful sound….unlike anyone had ever heard before. Soft, mesmerising singing coming from a place just off the beaten path.

Ulfgar could hardly contain himself and had to find out what exactly that sound was. The rest of the party followed at a distance. Ulfgar moved ahead quite quickly and pulled his distance away from the other members of the party.

A lone wood elf was spotted with bow and arrow in hand some 60 feet off the ground high up in a pine tree. The elf noticing the group signaled to them saying to not go any further. They could not make out his instructions and he descended down the tree with great skill descending the 60ft in what seemed like two leaps down from branch to branch and then landing elegantly on top of the snow.

Ulfgar had come upon a Harpy and unbeknownst to him, a cliff. He lunged toward the Harpy as it sang its unearthly song of seduction.

All the while the Elf had said there were three Harpies up ahead that he had been hunting. The party rushed forward under the protection of Freja's disenchanting protection magic. The party began to hurl arrows and spells.

Ulfgar had lunged into the talons of the harpy and within an instant she had pulled him away from the cliff and was attempting to drop him down the 1000 foot cliff side to his demise.

An arrow struck and a witch bolt electrified the Harpy and she dropped Ulfgar he fell quickly, to quickly for the party to react. The Harpy floated downward toward the soon be pulverized Ulfgar.  Next one other Harpy descended out of the trees and attacked but to no avail……the party looking over the side of the cliff saw as their comrades body was decimated on the rocks below.  Another Harpy jumped off the tree tops and began her descent to the bottom.

The party continued to engage the Harpy that was attacking. The Elf also had joined into the fight an in an instant with fire streaming out of the Monks arms, Arrows leaping from the Elf's bow and magic crackling from the Witches fingers the Harpy was defeated and lay in the snow.

Another wood elf arrived after the defeat with two rabbits in tow, he had been hunting the small game. The elves introduced themselves. Kier, a ranger and his close companion Kelric a fighter and aspiring magic user.

The party were committed to seeing their friend Ulfgar off to the afterlife, and to avenge him. The party searched and the Witch found a step crumbling stair case that descended down to the fjord below.  It looked treacherous to say the least.

The party began to descend the might cliff face stealthily and carefully. It took what seemed to be a lifetime before they came to the bottom all the while watching the harpies feast on their dead friend.

Everyone slowly nocked their bows and readied their spells and other attacks.

3….2…..one. ATTACK! Everyone loosed their best shots and took the Harpies by surprise. The party moved in to better engage their foes stepping on the plethora of bodies and bones of their previous victims.

Talons slashed and arrows flew wings flapped and punches were thrown and in no time the Harpies were defeated.

Assessing the area the party found an abundance of scattered coins jewels some potions and other some minor magic items from previous adventurers that had fallen before the deception of the Harpies.

As the party was looking around they spotted another circle of Ubris up across the fjord and up the other cliff. A disgusting site and there were Paladins of Ubris finishing up hanging the witches. Freja became visibly troubled.

The party finished up looting the dead and were trying to figure out how to get over to the circle of Ubris on the other side. Also seeing the sun going down was stopping their immediate plans of moving forward.

Then a dragon like creature appeared on the top of the cliff edge and the party became a bit nerve racked.

The beast leapt off the side of the cliff and began to descend down to the parties location. Everyone readied their weapons and braced for a battle some hiding to gain surprise on the beast.

It landed, a great green Wyvern. The ranger Kier approached the beast slowly and offered it some meat from their deceased associate, it accepted it with vigor and gulped it down. The other elf and the witch also emerged and offered it food. And it seemed to not mind the party and their vibe. More food was offered including one of the two conies Kelric had hunted. The Wyvern was more than satisfied and cudled up to the group feeling a kinship and a bond.

Freja had an idea…she approached the beast that measured a good 70 feet long and stroking its scales and speaking to it softly she mounted the creature. She connected with the beast and they took off into the air. Up, up they went and over to the circle of Ubris landing soundly. She dismounted and attempted to communicate with the aptly named Draco to go back and get her companions. It didn't seem interested at first that is until Kelric offered up his second Coney. Draco responed and leapt off the cliff and made way toward the group landing safely.

"Well, well, what do we have here" came a voice from behind Freja. She turned to look. A Paladin of Ubris unsheathing his sword engaged. She let out a cry and a witch bolt. The Paladin was surprised by the use of magic. The others down below noticed and both Kelric and Kier took a chance and mounted Draco and they wyvern flew up into the air toward the fray. Jhun was left behind to find a way across, let alone a way up to the top.

Draco landed just after Kelric and Kier loosed arrows into the Paladin. Draco landed and thrust his tail in through the Paladins chest killing him in an instant.

Draco, after some coaxing probably wanting to stay near to protect his new flock, went to pick up Jhun. The beast moved with swiftness back to the party.

The group took down the witches that were hanging and decided to wait until morning to burn the bodies as to not draw attention to their location.

The group huddled up together for warmth and Draco joined them encircling them with his long scaly body.

In the middle of the night Kier was awoken by a great light or lights. He got up and the rest of the party arose as well. Shafts of blue light beaming into the sky like beacons. The party also noticed the Hand of Ubris rock dimly glowing blue through its cracks. They realized that this must represent all the different circles of Ubris as far as they could see. It was a chilling realization.

The party again slumbered.

In the morning the group burned the bodies of the witches. Draco decided to perch upon the hand of Ubris. The rock became dislodged and the draconic birds body toppled it over and then a hu……..

The party awoke with overwhelming headaches as if from a thunderous or crushing explosion of some sort. The cliff face had fallen away where the hand of Ubris was at. The adventurers were strewn about some 40-70 feet away from each other. Everyone came too.

Jormander the Giant Serpent
Gudbjorg has fallen

A meager feast is underway at the mead hall at Haakon's forge. Freja, Gudbjorg and their new companion Jhun sit and mingle.

A lone stranger opens the double doors of the great hall and a hush comes over the crowd assembled. He is tall standing 6'4" and many suspect he is Trollkin or Trollborn, however, he is fair and does not have an ill look. The shadowy figure walks into the hall and people continue to wonder who this stranger is. Hrothgar approaches the stranger welcoming in the traveler and offers him mead and ale and what meat they have. He accepts.

The feast continues and soon the sound of a lone drum can be heard from an area in the mead hall. Freja, never denying the chance to dance, uses the rhythm of this foreign sounding beat and dances seductively. The energy builds and changes in the hall as the sound of the drum begins to carry its listeners into a trance-like state. The stranger from the east pounds upon his drum with an expertise that he is even surprised by, though he doesn't let on. Freja likewise grabs the gaze of many as she dances as if she her self was the goddess of her namesake.

Suddenly the stranger from the east and Freja enter into a vision, unbeknownst to the observers in the hall, and are lifted up above the structure in an out of body experience. In their vision quest Freja sees trees in the distance falling to the ground as if a great menace approaches. However, the stranger does not take heed of this sight and is whisked away by the pulsing of his drum.

The stranger and Freja come back to their bodies opening their eyes. The stranger is calm and at peace. Freja, however, has a concerned look upon her face.

The traveler from the north having caught the gaze of Freja licks his lips and approaches her. Freja looking a bit frantic and alert walks hastily up to Hrothgar speaking of her vision and alerts him to a possible threat that she is sure of. The others in the party overhear this as well as the Traveler from the North.

Hastily Freja addresses the hall saying an impending enemy or possible enemies are approaching the village and everyone that is able must take up arms. Many reluctantly brandish spears and axes standing to attention and they all begin to file outside.

Outside a fog had rolled in and began to descend upon the village. Gudbjorg climbed up onto a roof to get a better view of the area, trying to spot the possible threat. The stranger from the north headed to the Western outskirts of town to investigate. Freja was also looking with anticipation for the impending threat. Jhun walked out into the open area just outside the village but before the edge of the forest.

The fog descended.

Everyone's vision was obscured by the thick fog and Hrothgar instructed the farmers and families to go back to their homes and lock the doors.

Freja had her Raven fly off into the forest to look for the possible threat. In no time, Freja could not communicate with her beloved bird.

After a short while the bird came crashing down in front of her, bloodied and missing a wing. Freja, in understandable panic, retreated back into the mead hall with her Familiar.

Jhun being exposed was listening intently to his surroundings. SNAP! A bite from nowhere reached out to claim the Easterner. Gudbjorg dropped down from his rooftop and inched his way toward where Jhun was. Not seeing anything the stranger from the North also made headway over to where Jhun was at.

Another strike and another and before long Jhun and Gudbjorg was in a blind battle. Blades slashed across white scaly skin and in an instant Gudbjorg was swallowed whole by the snake like beast. Jhun continuted to attack the beast as the Stranger from the North enganged. In another fell swoop Jhun was swallowed by the beast. The Northerner slashed and fought.

In the mead hall a lone old woman sat in the corner and observed a frantic Freja stumble in though the doors and lay her injured bird on the nearest table. Freja doing what she could was approached by the old woman and he offered to help, mending the area where the majestic wing had once been and reviving the bird's spirit with a magic of her own.

The old woman looked with intent at Freja, "do you want your powers back?" She exclaimed. "Yes" Freja answered with a tear in her eye. The old woman took out a knife and asked Freja to lay down on the ground. She opened her shirt and began to carve the sigil of Wotan on her chest very slowly and agonisingly.

Gudbjorg pushed up on the feet of Jhun to try to dislodge him as the Northman slashed and attmepted to best the beast. Pushing as hard as she could Gudbjorg dislodged Jhun from the throat of the giant serpent and ended up on the mouth of the beast, he tried to reach for Gudbjorg but and lifted her up into the mouth Jhun then crushed the beast by striking it through the head, killing it…….and as the beast fell to the ground the two came tumbling out.

The beast was slain.

The old woman finished carving into Freja's chest and it crackled and had a slight glow to it that faded. The old woman smiled and then stepped back observed her handy work. "Use your powers as you wish" she said with a grimace. In an instant she was whisked away in smoke and violet colored embers that arose to the ceiling.

The party took some of the meat from the giant white serpent and used it to feast upon in the hall. many assembled once again praising the heroes for saving them and their village. Hrothgar was very grateful praising the heroes for taking down what he thought was the legendary serpent Jormander.

The merriment was well under way once again.

Without warning the doors to the mead hall swung open violently revealing shadowy figures standing at the door nude with bloodied weapons….Berserkers!

A hush and then excitement blanketed the crowd as people approached the Berserkers with animal skins to cover their nakedness. They were treated with the utmost respect and provided with meat and drink and places to sit as they told of their exploits of tracking down and killing the Fenrir that had won the battle at Corpsewood.

The night wound down and most slept in the mead hall.

In the morning the party arose and made plans to leave the village of Haakon's Forge. They ate and said their goodbyes. Jhun, Freja, Gudbjorg and their new traveling companion from the North set off into the wilderness.

After many hours and a few short rests the party saw a familiar sight. That of a lone standing stone with the bodies of witches hung around it. Though this time they saw the followers of Ubris finishing the hanging of the unfortunate souls.

The party quickly went into stealth mode trying to gain the upper hand on the Knights of Ubris. They inched their way closer. Gudbjorg nocked an arrow found her target and fired!

The arrow missed its intended target. The gods are not in our favor she thought.

Freja loosed a spell, witch bolt, and as it sailed through the air a cloud surrounded it like a force field striking true.

The party fought against the Followers of Ubris trading blows back and forth for a short time.

Soon Jhun had fallen along with the Northman unconcious and in the snow. Next Gudbjorg took many blows and had fallen as well.

Freja seeing the huge opposition and her certain death readied another spell and prepared to join her companions in death.

Suddenly the roar of the Berserkers came echoing through the forest and as soon as they had appeared their foes were bested.

Freja restored Jhun and the Northman back to health but Gudbjorg had walked through the tunnel of death.

The party and the Berserkers cut down the witches hanging and burned their bodies along with Gudbjorg.

Of Death and Hill Giants
Endre has fallen

Soon our party finds itself facing the threat of yet another pack of Fenrir in pursuit. The party, as stealthily as they could, hid behind a group of rocks and nearby trees. The Fenrir are savage hunters and within a short time had the party surrounded.

Suddenly, a Fenrir drops down off of a boulder near Fraja and she backs up. Gudbjorg and Endre loose arrows at two different Fenrir.

Then as fast as the battle started a crash of a tree pulverizes three of the Fenrir. A GIANT! A giant wielding a tree trunk that is.

The other three Fenrir lunge at the giant. The party seeing this as an opportune time to flee the scene make haste and dart deeper into the forest.

In no time they hear the cracking of trees behind them and turn to see the hill giant gaining on them. The party begin to hurl arrows and crossbow bolts at the enormous creature. The party threads itself through the trees and boulders scattered before them on their path. More arrows and crossbow bolts fly. A final arrow hits the giant in the head and it crashes to its death.

The party finally slow their pace, hunching over they catch their breath.

The party digs into their packs and feast on a little food. They gather their belongings. Not speaking much, but knowing that they are better off together, they soldier on in an attempt to find shelter, a village, or some other form of sanctuary.

After walking for a time Endre & Gudbjorg spot a strange site in what looks like a clearing. Large vines or the like swaying in the slight breeze some 100 yards away.

The party decides to get a little closer to investigate. As they approach they see a large monolith in the center of a clearing surrounded by trees that outstretch over head. Nine people tied by their feet are hanging upside down naked with their intestines hanging out from a gash in their bellies. Eight females and one male. They each hang 12 feet off the ground encircling the stone monolith in the center. Freja noticed by their coal smudgings that they were witches, Völva.

The party is overly cautious as they do not know what all this might mean. Endre's curiosity gets the better of him and he lunges into the area noticing a warmth coming from the monolith in the center. Soon the rest of the party follows.

As the party investigates they notice a medallion on the ground. Freja realizes from her studies of religion that it is the medallion of Ubris followers of "The Loyal Fury".

The sun soon quickens to its slumber and in no time the party is left in the dark and cannot see.

The party had a tough time lighting their torches but was finally able to get one lit. Travelling to a clearing nearby the party sets up a make shift camp and Endre is elected to take first watch.

During the night an arctic chill along with snowfall descended upon the area. Freja and Gudbjorg kept warm with their many pelts. However, Endre did not fare so well and before morning he had expired. It could have been due to the elements, a secret ailment, or perhaps a curse from the circle of dead witches. Nonetheless, the fighter had been taken by the gods.

When Gudbjorg and Freja awoke they were shocked to find their battle friend dead in the snow with ice blue lips.

Both Freja and Gudbjorg desperatly tried to revive their friend but to no avail.

Off in the distance a lone hermit, a vagabond, was walking in the clearing and Freja and Gudbjorg waved the person down. Seeing their distress the person made its way over. He approached inquiring as to what the matter was. After explaining what happened to their friend the man said he could try to resurrect their friend. However, the cost would be that their friend would have to serve his god. They agreed.

The man gave a blessing over Endre and while he was doing so the two noticed that the man was wearing a medallion of Ubris. They winced.

The man arose and started to walk away. Endre started to revive but only for a moment and then slipped back into the shadow realms.

Gudbjorg and Freja decided to give the witches and Endre a proper sending.

While gathering the bodies a foreigner approached the two speaking in only gestures. Within a little time it was determined that he was looking for followers of Ubris. As they had ravaged his village and he knew they were amassing in this area. Knowing that having friends is better than traveling alone he decided to stay and help the two.

Gudbjorg took up her bow and shot down the 9 witches with 7 arrows. They gathered up the bodies along with Endre and burned them. The black smoke rose into the sky.

As Gudbjorg and Freja were showing their respect Gudbjorg looked up to see not one but three Hill giants running down the mountain side and running toward them.

Freja readied a spell and Gudbjorg nocked an arrow.

One of the giants was making headway and was quite a bit farther in front of the other two and was gaining on the party. Arrows were loosed and magic was cast and the group ran as fast as they could to get away from this lethal threat.

The party traveled for what seemed like hours finally reaching the end of the forest. Within their view they see a small village near the edge and approach with caution. Children play near the edge of the quite village.

As they approach the village a man approaches and signals to them. The man asks where the outsiders are from. The party explains that they had come from the battle at Corpsewood against the Fenrir and are in need of shelter, especially since they just fled from three Hill Giants.

He introduces himself as Hrothgar and welcomes them to the village of Haakon's Forge. The party are welcomed into their Meadhall and stay for 10 days, resting and healing and refocusing.

Attack of the Warglords (Fenrir)

A cold battlefield lay before a newly assembled battalion.

The Fenrir, a race of humanoid wolves with white fur, stand opposing the small human army assembled at Corpsewood.

Freja, a young Völva (witch) leads a group of archers and awaits the orders of the Jarl of Corpsewood.

The minutes seem like hours and the Jarl commands the infantry to move forward. Awaiting his signal they move forward and begin to attack the Fenrir. The battle ensues as the battalion of archers commanded by Freja awaits their orders.

Soon the Jarl motions for the archers to ready their bows. The human army is failing and the Jarl orders the archers to loose their arrows. Freja gives the command and the archers loose their arrows, some striking their targets others landing in the damp earth.

After a few volleys the Freja's battalion sees that they are about to be flanked by a large band of Fenrir. Freja moves her battalion into position and she gives the instruction for them to fire at will.

Gudbjorg and Endre find their targets often falling many of the wolven beasts. Before long they find themselves being victorious. However, looking to the battle at large Freja sees that the battle is quickly coming to a head as many of the farmer warriors are being slaughtered and eaten by the Fenrir.

Before long Freja's battalion is overwhelmed by the shear numbers and most are killed and begin to flee for their lives. Freja and two archers Gudbjorg and Endre retreat with her into the forest.

It didn't take long and the three notice a group of 6 Fenrir perusing them.

Gudbjorg turns and while running takes one of the Fenrir down with an arrow and continutes running.

Endre does the same falling a Fenrir on the run.

The three make haste and finally loose the persuing Fenrir and find themselves lost deep in a dark forest.
